A MESSAGE FROM:

Sandy Sands, President Friends of Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site

Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site is waiting for you. The Park is open for hiking, canyon tours and camping.

Who are we?

The Friends of Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site (SCSP). has come together as a 501 (C) 3 to help support the Park to be able to offer activities and engagements that are outside of the Park’s normal routine. Specifically,  “To assist and support thru volunteer activities and fund raising the overall goals and objectives of Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site.” That is who we are.

Come Join Us

By joining the Friends of Seminole Canyon State Park, you will be part of a like minded group of folks who experience SCSP as a very unique and special world. The beauty and ruggedness of the canyon lands is all around us. The world renowned 4500 year old Rock Art of the Lower Pecos is the heart of the Park. The Dark Sky (we are working on certification) is phenomenal for star gazing. Want to be a Rock Art Canyon guide? Come join us. Want to start a Dutch oven cooking program? Want to be working on trails? The Park Rangers would welcome your help! We need volunteers! Whatever your skill or interest, Seminole Canyon State Park can very likely put you to work. Folks have been living, working and visiting here for over 10,000 years.

Kayak to Panther Cave

Panther Cave, accessible only by boat, sits just out of reach off of lower Seminole Canyon as it joins Lake Amistad. The Park is initiating a hike / kayak tour to take visitors to the Cave site. It will be an all day excursion to hike from the visitor center to the kayak storage at the Lake Amistad water’s edge, then paddle the ¼ mile or so to Panther Cave. The Friends of SCSP sponsored a very successful fund raising effort to purchase thirteen kayaks for the hike / kayak tour. It includes two kayaks for the guides, 10 solo kayaks and one tandem kayak for the visitors. As of this moment, the lake is too low to paddle the kayaks and too muddy to walk. So, we wait!

Join us in the Lower Pecos

Come experience the World of The Rock Art of The Lower Pecos. We look forward to your joining us as Friends of Seminole Canyon State Park and Historic Site.

Hope to see you soon at Seminole Canyon State Park.
